19 Straight For Boys' V Squash

Despite missing two key players, Mercersburg defeated visiting St. Christopher's School (Richmond, VA) 7-2 in a boys' varsity squash match February 7.

Head coach Dominic Benacquista shared that at the top of the ladder, Noe Aceves ’25 and Rayyan Khan ’27 swept to 3-0 victories while Sid Shah ’26, Marcus Lee ’26, and Collin Jin ’25 secured victories in four games. William Luo ’27 and Kyle Hwang ’26 each battled to five-game wins against higher-ranked opponents. Finn Mauro ’27 and Aidan Yang ’27 put up impressive fights but ultimately fell in four games.

“We needed this type of matchup," said coach Benacquista, "one where we couldn’t rely solely on our top players to secure the win. The Saints matched up well against us, outranking most of our middle and lower-ladder players. However, the team was well-prepared, and this victory should give the boys confidence in their ability to step up when it matters most. It was great to see their fundamentals make a difference, something we will continue to refine as we head into nationals. This win also likely secured the Division I placement we’ve been fighting for all season, which would be huge for the program. Fingers crossed”

Mercersburg will visit Episcopal Academy (Newtown Square, PA) on Wednesday, February 12 at 4:30 pm.
