Another Record Falls in Indoor Track

Mercersburg hosted the "Back to Work" indoor track meet at the Hale Field House January 17, which was highlighted by Ryan Du Plessis '25 breaking the school record in the boys' 800m run.

Du Plessis won his race by an astounding 10 seconds and his time of 1:55.63 lowered the record that had been held by Griffin Burns '06 since 2005. Other notable performances included Ella Blanco '26 winning the girls' mile in a time of 5:19.44, which is the second fastest in school history. Head coach Betsy Cunningham commented, "This was the most aggressive race I have ever seen from Ella. I loved it!" The girls' 4x400 relay of Anne Sehon '25, Addy Arnsparger '27, Teresa Nyarko '28, and Maddie Chu '27 also took first and their time of 4:26.93 was the third best in Mercersburg history. Coach Cunningham added that "As Anne (Sehon) was running the final leg of the race, the entire team ran across the infield so that she could hold off the team in second place. And she did."

It was a night for school records and personal records as Coach Cunningham shared that, "I asked the team to raise their hands if they had a PR (personal record) and it was amazing how many hands shot up into the air...probably around 65%, including all of the female identifying shot putters. The kids are working hard and their effort is certainly paying off."
