Another Williams Walkoff Winner for Baseball Team

Gavin Williams '25 drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 8th as the baseball team pulled out an 8-7 extra inning victory over visiting Kiski School (Saltsburg, PA).

The Storm fell behind 5-1 in the top of the 5th, but scored five runs of their own in the bottom half to move back in front. Ben Samuels '25 delivered the big hit with a two-run single in that fifth inning rally and then provided more heroics by driving a two-out home run over the left-centerfield fence to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th and force extra innings. The Cougars threatened in the top of the 8th, but Cam Weyforth '27 made a tremendous diving grab of a fly ball in right field and then fired to first to double off the runner and end the threat. In the bottom half Nick Rosenberry '28 and Ethan Strickler '27 reached base via walks and then Williams ripped a hit over the first base bag to plate Rosenberry with the game-winner. A week earlier Williams helped defeat Broadfording with a similar final-at-bat hit.

Williams, Samuels, Weyforth, and Derrick Park '25 each had two hits while Samuels drove in three runs and Williams drove in two. Austin Coons '28 picked up the win on the mound pitching two innings of relief.

Mercersburg concludes its season with a home doubleheader against Peddie on Saturday, May 10 starting at 1 pm.
