Baseball Defeats Hedgseville

The varsity baseball team picked up its fourth win in the last five games with an 11-1 win over visiting Hedgesville (WV) high school April 24.

Each team scored a run in the first and the score held at 1-1 until the Storm exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Four more runs in the bottom of the sixth ended the game early due to the 10-run rule.

Thomas Marchesi '24 (two-run double) and Gavin Williams '25 (two-run single) had the big hits in the fifth inning rally. Mercersburg added five more hits in the sixth, and it was Williams who ended the game with another RBI single. Williams finished with four hits and three RBI while Marchesi had three hits (two of them doubles) and two RBI. Tyson Brown '26 also drove in two runs on two hits as the Storm collected a total of fourteen hits as a team. Augie Bennett '24 went the distance on the mound for the win, scattering six hits and recording four strikeouts.

Mercersburg is now 7-6 overall and 6-1 in the MAPL with a huge MAPL doubleheader at Hun (Princeton, NJ) on Saturday, April 27 beginning at 1 pm. Hun also has a 6-1 MAPL record so if either team can pull off the sweep they will have the inside track to the MAPL title.
