Baseball Rolls To Victory

Mercersburg downed host Berkeley Springs (WV) 14-2 in a varsity baseball game that was shortened to five innings May 1.

The Storm exploded for seven runs in the first inning to take control, and even though Berkeley Springs responded with two in the bottom half, the game was never seriously in doubt. A two-run double by Tyson Brown '25 and an RBI triple from Thomas Davenport '24 were the key hits in the big first inning rally, as Mercersburg sent eleven hitters to the plate. The bats went quiet for a couple of innings before Thomas Marchesi '24 hit a grand slam over the centerfield wall in the fourth. The Storm tacked on two more in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Brown and Marchesi each had two hits to lead the offense and Marchesi collected five RBI in all. Augie Bennett '24 got the win on the mound, striking out eight in four innings of work. Reid Davis '27 came on to retire the side in order in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Mercersburg is now 9-7 and will host Kiski (Saltsburg, PA) on Saturday, May 4 at 4 pm.
