Baseball Sweeps Blair

Mercersburg's baseball team swept a Mid-Atlantic Prep League doubleheader (8-1, 12-6) against visiting Blair Academy April 6.

It was another cold and windy day on campus, but at least there was no rain for the first time in over a week. In the first game Augie Bennett '24 went 3-3 and Thomas Davenport '24 pitched five strong innings to lead the effort. Blair actually took a 1-0 lead in the third, but Mercersburg tied it in the home half of the fourth and then broke the game open with a 5-run fifth. Gavin Williams '25 pitched the last two innings to close it out.

Mercersburg picked up right where it left off by scoring five runs in the first inning of game two and led 11-1 after four. Blair put some runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Storm held on for the 12-6 win. Bennett and Davenport had two hits each in game two with Augie also driving in three runs and picking up the win on the mound by giving up just two runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Reid Davis '27 and Brodie Collins '24 came on in relief of Bennett.

The Storm are now 2-4 overall, 2-1 in the MAPL with a game at Martinsburg (WV) high school on Wednesday, April 10 at 7 pm.
