Baseball Takes Two at Peddie

Mercersburg swept Peddie 3-0 and 9-2 in a MAPL baseball doubleheader played in Hightstown, NJ April 20.

The Storm scored all three runs in game one in the fourth inning on an RBI infield single by Brodie Collins '24 and a two-run homer from Hayden Shirk '24. Thomas Davenport '24 was the only repeat hitter with a double and a single, but the big story was his dominance on the mound. Davenport pitched a complete game shutout and struck out fifteen Peddie hitters in just seven innings! The Falcons scored first in game two, but Thomas Marchesi '24 put Mercersburg in front for good with a three-run homer in the second inning. The Storm pulled away with two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth on their way to the 9-2 win. Augie Bennett '24 led the offense with three hits while Collins, Marchesi, Gavin Williams '25, and Sam Menendez '24 had two each. Bennett and Menendez also collected two RBI apiece. Marchesi pitched five innings and struck out nine hitters with Williams coming on to strike out all six batters he faced in the final two innings, so Mercersburg pitchers recorded fifteen strikeouts in each game.

Mercersburg is now 6-6 overall, 6-1 in the MAPL and will host Hedgesville (WV) high school on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 pm.
