Boys' V Lacrosse Claims Commonwealth Cup!

Mercersburg defeated host Jack Barrack Hebrew Academy (Conshohocken, PA) 11-6 May 15 in the championship game of the Commonwealth Cup division of the PAISAA boys' lacrosse tournament.

The Storm charged out of the gate, scoring twice in the first minute and racking up five goals by the end of the first period of play. Mercersburg stalled in the second quarter and saw the lead trimmed down to 5-4 by halftime. The big moment of the game came at the 9:03 mark of the third quarter, when Dylan Ridgway '26 (player of the game) picked up the ball at midfield, ran the distance, absorbed several checks, and finished. "It was the type of goal that energized our whole team," said head coach Tim Kerr. "We scored two more in the next minute to really turn the tide. The defense really buckled down in the second half and made it difficult for Barrack to build any momentum.  We only had one failed clear the whole game which cut down on second chance opportunities for them."

Will Donovan '25, Frank Bonsal '25, and Ridgway each scored three goals with Will Lavan '27 and Thomas McNeil '25 adding one apiece. Donovan and Reed Warner '25 dished out three assists while Max Strauss '25 had two, and Bonsal and Lavan each had one. Taimur Rehman '25 turned away eight shots in goal. In addition to his two assists, Strauss collected eight ground balls and combined with Jonny Nusdorfer '26 to win sixteen face-offs (only losing five), giving the Storm a big edge in possessions.

"It was a fantastic way to end our season," added coach Kerr. "Both teams battled in hot and humid conditions and a ton of credit should be given to Barrack for their effort. We were fortunate to win the possession game and finish our opportunities, particularly in the second half. Our leaders stepped up in a big way. We hope to build on this next year, but will enjoy it for now. Thank you again to our seniors, and we appreciate all the support from the community throughout the year."

Mercersburg ends its season with a final record of 7-6.
