Field Hockey Gets First Win

Lexi Chepren '26 scored both goals as the Blue Storm field hockey team defeated visiting Saint James 2-1 September 27 for their first victory of the season.

Mercersburg had several scoring opportunities in the first few minutes of the game, but came up empty. The Saints then took control of possession for most of the first half and had multiple corners, but they also could not score so the game went into halftime in a scoreless tie.

The second half was back and forth and fairly even until Chepren scored her first goal with 2:32 left in the third with an assist from sister Sammi Chepren '27. Goalie Lilah Weisberg '25 and defenders Page Starkey '24, Pritz Pritker '25, Catherine Kidd '24 and Scarlett McArthur '24 did a great job keeping the Saints at bay until they managed to tie the game at 1-1 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. The action was intense in the final period and Lexi Chepren notched what proved to be the game-winner with 5:40 to play. Both teams had scoring chances in the final minutes, but the Blue Storm held on for the win.

Head coach Michaela Singer commented, "The team has been working really hard the past few days and it definitely showed. Our defense was strong and communicated well. Our offense had great passing sequences and off ball movements. To say I’m proud of them is an understatement. We are going to keep refining our skills and come out even stronger for the next game."

Mercersburg (1-4) hosts Lawrenceville School in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League game on Saturday, September 30 at 1 pm as part of Family/Alumni Weekend.
