Girls' and Boys' Track Dominate at Landon

Mercersburg's girls' and boys' track teams both emerged victorious at the Landon School Invitational April 5.

The girls piled up 63 points to easily outdistance second place Academy of the Holy Cross (24) and five other teams while the boys total of 59 points was more than double that of second place Fairfax Homeschool (27) and four other squads.

Marlo Williams '25 won both the 100M Hurdles and 300M Hurdles for the girls' team while Gabby Cechini '28 also doubled up, winning the 1600M and 3200M runs. Gabby's time of 11:29.00 qualifies her for New Balance Nationals in June. Other winners for the girls included Anne Sehon '25 in the 400M Dash and Adrienne Howard '26 in the long jump. The girls also took first in the 4x800M, 4x100M, and 4x400M relays.

For the boys, Grant Kurmakov '25 won the 200M Dash and finished third in the 100M. Event wins were also recorded by Josiah Wright '25 in the High Jump, Arnav Rao '26 in the 400M dash, Chris Carbone '26 in the 1600M, Ryan Du Plessis '25 in 800M, and Eric Cittadine '25 in the 300M Hurdles (with teammate Gustavo Lisboa '26 just .01 second behind). The boys also took first in the 4x400M relay.

"April is all about learning and training for May," said head coach Nikki Walker. "This was a great day for gaining more insight as to what we are capable of. Kids are getting better with each attempt and race. We had fun and were able to be successful at the same time."
