Girls' Golf Ties McDonogh

Mercersburg and McDonogh School (Owings Mills, MD) battled to a draw in a girls' golf match played at the Woodholme Country Club (Pikesville, MD) April 23.

Three pairs of golfers from each team squared off in a best ball match play format and the Storm won one, lost one, and halved the third, resulting in the tie overall. Head coach Doug Smith reports that "In the first match captains Abby Yang '25 and Amanda Xi '25 went toe to toe with the 1 and 2 from McDonogh and through strong play and two massive clutch birdies by Abby got their noses in front only to be caught on the final hole and ending up tied in their match. Kelsey Li '26 and Jessica Dang '26 lost their match 3 & 2. They had their opportunities but failed to capitalize on the greens. Shine Jo '25 and Jessica Nguyen '25 took their match 3 & 1 and really played some of their best golf of the year."

"We played well today," coach Smith added, "and really felt we could've taken the match, but on the whole a tie is just fine. The first grouping was an excellent match with some tremendous golf being played and I feel we were a bit unlucky not to win that one.  Thrilled for Shine and Jess in the final group; their ball striking is improving by the day."

The girls will compete in the Peddie School "Swing Into Cancer" tournament on Saturday, April 26 at 1 pm.
