Indoor Track Third and Fourth at MAPL Meet

The Mercersburg girls' indoor track & field team tied for third at this year's Mid-Atlantic Prep League Meet while the boys took fourth in the event, which was hosted by Lawrenceville School on Friday, February 7.

The girls scored 79 points, which was their highest total since 2019. Bella Levina '25 accounted for 24 points on her own by finishing first in the triple jump, second in the pole vault, and third in the 55m hurdles (with a lifetime Personal Record). Ella Blanco '26 also had a huge points day by taking first in the 3200m run, second in the 1600m run (running a lifetime PR), and combining with Addie Arnsparger '27, Teresa Nyarko '28, and Anne Sehon '25 to finish second in the 4x400 relay. The relay time of 4:22.54 is good for second place on the school's all-time top ten list. Sehon also finished third individually in the 1600m (running a lifetime PR) while Abby Kendall '26 also ran a lifetime PR and finished third in the 55m dash. Mary Grady '25 and Kam Jenkins '26 both scored points for the team in the shot put.

The boys' 67 points was 40 more than they scored in this meet last year, and included multiple school records. Ryan Duplessis '25 won the boys' 1600m run in a school record time of 4:22.75, breaking a mark that had stood since 2008. Duplessis also finished first in the 800m run, followed closely by teammate Iman Zhakan '26, both of them achieving personal best times. Duplessis and Zhakan then combined with Winston Watkins '25 and Eric Cittadine '26 to take third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:36.11 that lowered their school record from earlier in the season. Charlie Xu '26 tied his own school record of 6.60 in the 55m dash (finishing third) and then took second in the long jump with a leap of 20' 4". Chris Carbone '26 had a great day, finishing fourth in the 1600m and 3200m runs with lifetime PR's in both while Derrick Park '25 had a lifetime PR in the 55m hurdles and moved into the third spot on the school's all-time top ten list.
