Second Win for Boys' Golf

The boys' golf team defeated Highland School (Warrenton, VA) 167-180 April 3 in a match played at the Faquier Springs Country Club.

Head coach Doug Smith noted that "Fauquier Springs is a tight course that required a good bit of local knowledge and with that in mind the Storm played some excellent golf. Leading the way was Captain Ryan Kothari '25 who rebounded from a disappointing first match of the year with a very nice 40 that featured tremendous iron play. Not to be out done Stewart Allan '27, who played in the same pairing, also fired a 40 but his round was highlighted by his putting.  Next in line was Mathew Gu '27 who continued his rock solid play with a 43 that could've been so much lower if it wasn't for a couple of bad breaks. Rounding out the scoring were Miles New '27 and Cameron Gierasch '27 who both were on the verge of great rounds and just let it slip through their fingers a bit."

Coach Smith continued, "A really solid performance today. With Ryan leading the way that makes three matches and three different medalists for us. The beauty of this team is that any of the top eight could be our low scorer on any given day. Our depth is coming together. Very excited for the team's progression."

Mercersburg is now 2-1 and takes on Georgetown Prep (Bethesda, MD) at the Belmont Country Club (Ashburn, VA) on Tuesday, April 8 at 3 pm.
