Softball Falls to Westtown in PAISAA Tournament

Visiting Westtown School (West Chester, PA) edged Mercersburg 6-5 in nine innings in the first round of the PAISAA softball tournament May 15.

The game was scoreless through three innings, but the Moose put four on the board in the top of the fourth, including a two-run homer from pitcher Leah Fulton (who recorded twenty strikeouts on the mound). The Storm chipped away at the lead by scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and then tied it in the sixth to send the game to extra innings. Westtown scored twice in the top of the ninth to take a 6-4 lead, and though Mercersburg pushed a run across in the bottom half they were unable to extend the rally.

Jaz Garnett '27 had three hits to lead the offense while Emily Guzic '28 and Stevie Keck '26 each had two. In an unusual achievement, both the Westtown pitcher (Fulton) and Mercersburg's Peyton Appenzellar '28 recorded their 100th strikeouts of the season during the game.

Mercersburg finishes the season with an overall record of 8-12.
