Softball Pounds Peddie in Doubleheader Sweep

Emily Guzic '28 belted a home run in each game to lead Mercersburg to a sweep of Peddie (Hightstown, NJ) 16-1 and 18-9 in a Mid Atlantic Prep League softball doubleheader played in Mercersburg May 10.

The Storm scored 12 runs in the third inning of game one to cruise to an easy victory that ended early due to the 15-run rule, but had to battle hard in the second contest, pulling away after the teams were tied at five after three innings. Mercersburg actually scored at least once in all ten innings of the two games.

Guzic went 6-9 across the two games and had six RBI while Kam Jenkins '26 had five hits and six RBI (including a homer), Jaz Garnett '27 had four hits and five RBI (also including a home run), Adi Rinker '27 had four hits and scored six times, and Availina Orfield '25, who rejoined the lineup just two weeks ago to fill in for an injured teammate, collected three hits, scored five runs, and drove in five. Peyton Appenzellar '28 went the distance on the mound in both games and also contributed five hits to the offense.

Mercersburg finishes the season with a 5-5 record in the MAPL and will host McConnellsburg high school in its final regular season game on Tuesday, May 13 at 4:30 pm.
