Spring Mills Nips Boys' V Lacrosse

Spring Mills high school (Martinsburg, WV) eked out a 7-5 win over host Mercersburg in a boys' varsity lacrosse game played on Regents' Field April 11.

The Storm led 3-2 after the first period, but the Cardinals scored three straight to take a 5-3 lead at halftime and the teams traded goals in the second half. Will Donovan '25 and Reed Warner '25 scored two goals apiece for Mercersburg with Brayden Pearson '27 tallying the fifth. Donovan added two assists while Warner and Will Lavan '27 had one assist each. "Max Strauss went 8 for 9 at the face-off dot after rejoining the team this week," noted head coach Tim Kerr. "He also picked up eight ground balls.  He and Jonny Nussdorder combined to go 11-16 at the face-off dot. Defense overall had a solid game and Liam Glick '27 played his best game as a member of the Storm."

"The team showed a lot of character in this game," coach Kerr aded. "There is still some nuance to the game that we are still working to understand, but there is no doubt that the guys are trying to do the right thing. We had several opportunities on the offensive end, but credit should go to Spring Mills' goalie for standing tall. Congrats to Spring Mills, as they are a tough team that plays hard the whole time. We are certainly still learning how to navigate competitive games but this was a great learning experience. I'm especially proud of the way we played in the riding and clearing game."

Mercersburg (1-4) hosts Stronghold United Lacrosse (Greencastle, PA) on Wednesday, April 16 at 5 pm.
