Strong Opening Meet for Track Teams

Both the boys' and girls' track and field teams logged dominant performances in their first meet of the season April 2, a home event that involved Faith Christian Academy, Maryland School for the Deaf, and McConnellsburg high school.

Outstanding performances for the boys included Kellen Greene '28, who won the high jump with a leap of 5'10", Deran Shippy '25, who finished second in both the long and triple jumps, Adrian Rios '25, who won the javelin with a toss of 140-3, Grant Kurmakov '25 who won the 200M dash and finished second in the 100M, Konrad Spory '26, who won the 100M Dash, Ahmed "H" Habib '26, who won the 3200M run, Iman Zhakan '26, who won the 800M dash, and Chris Carbone '26, who won the 1600M run.

On the girls side, Adrienne Howard '26 won both the Long and Triple Jumps and finished second in the 100M dash. Other double winners were Mary Grady '25 in the discus and shot put, Marlo Williams '25 in the javelin and 100M Hurdles, Ella Blanco '26 in the 800M and 400M Dashes, and Lisa Tschiesner '27, who won the 200M dash and was part of the winning 4x400M relay.

"It was a great way to start the year!," said head coach Nikki Walker. "Almost ninety athletes from Mercersburg were able to participate. The competition was perfect for April 2! Everyone came away from the day feeling good about something that they learned."

Mercersburg will return to action on Saturday, April 5 with a meet at the Landon School (Bethesda, MD) beginning at 9 am.
