Victories over Broadfording Academy and McConnellsburg have put the varsity volleyball team on a three-game winning streak and raised the teams season record to 6-5.

The Blue Storm travelled to Hagerstown on Thursday, October 5 and knocked off Broadfording for the second time this season. Mercersburg swept the Lions 3-0 and were led by Alyssa Lee '25 and Lena Wilke '27, who combined for 16 digs and did an excellent job receiving serve.

Then on Saturday, October 7, Mercersburg hosted McConnellsburg (PA) high school in a rematch after falling to the Spartans 3-0 on September 27. This match was a "Dig Pink" event and both teams wore pink while encouraging fans to do the same and to donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research.

Once the action on the court got underway, McConnellsburg seized the upper hand and cruised to a 25-11 win the the first set. The Blue Storm settled down after that and took the next two sets 25-15 and 25-18. Emily Jiang '24 and Alli Caretti '26 were forces at the net and Jiang gave Caretti several beautiful sets as Mercersburg built momentum. Jiang then put things away by serving 13 straight points to push the Blue Storm to an insurmountable 14-1 lead in set #3. The Spartans did not give up and fought back to within six at one point, but Mercersburg closed out the third set 25-18 for the 3-1 match victory.

Head coach Amy Lyman said, "Each match we get better, which is very rewarding. The girls are working hard and really wanted a win in the rematch against McConnellsburg."
